We're in Dunes right now after completing Thirsty. Come to International 1 and say something so we'll know you're from the boards.

Just form your own group. Be the leader of the group. It's easier to be boss. Then you don't have to wait or wish some group with invite you for the mission.

For that mission I find that a Water Elementalist works better for caster shutdown than a mesmer ever could. Maelstrom is an absolutely wonderful skill.
I tackled Thirsty River the first time I went through with my Elementalist. We breezed right through it. Everyone was shocked that it was so easy that particular run and I never quite understood until I had to go through with my Monk.
Josso, I HATE YOU. I hope you become someone's handbag someday.

Good luck with Ascension. I'm sure you'll beat it. Really was a fun time and an awesome group all around.

If you ever need help with ascension, and I'm no, PM me and I'll try to help ya.

Only trouble is interrupting monk spells with distracting shot, which tend to have a rather short casting time.
Mesmers have some auto interrupt spells.

A little background - My main is a Ranger. I found Thirsty challenging but not hard. I finnished it on the 2nd or 3rd try.
Now I am playing a monk. I spent 2 days there. That is way too much time on 1 mission. I duo with another monk. so protection and healing were covered. We always asked for 1 warrior, 1 ranger or Mesmer 1 Ele 1 Necro or Warrior.
The problems I ran into are...
Warriors - most of them would not stay with the group and would run ahead and split the group. That meant more aggro and dead party members because of healing range.
Rangers/Mesmers - There were too many rangers and Mesmers that don't know what interupts are. Even after giving a few examples they didn't know how to use them. (interupters get the monk boss, everyone else get the priest)
No joke, It was always the Rangers 1st to die and yell "these monks suck" or worse. I just then realised why people don't like Rangers. It sucks for my main but I can't blame them. Rangers are Tough to play correctly. It is easy to aggro farther mobs if you are not paying attention. Casters can stop casting and warriors have to get close to the mobs. rangers only need 1 second to aggro a 2nd mob from 100' away.

Agreed...distracting shot is too tough to interrupt monk healing....However, by the time you get to any of the ascension missions...you should have choking gas. Thirsty River is a good place to spam Choking gas, distracting shot, debilitating shot, and savage shot. (And healing spring...hehe.) Also, I like to bring a couple traps in my build for T.R. for dealing with groups while we finish off the monks.

I agree Warriors can be very annoying. I am a Warrior/Monk and it kills me to get into a group where the other Warrior will not work with me. It is better to have two Warriors blocking a path to protect the Casters. So now I wait a sec before jumping in on the called target(If there is a Called Target..*sigh*). See what is "setting up" in the fight before I jump in. Many times I have broken off fighting one guy just to run back and draw fire off the Casters. I always keep Sprint loaded in my skills. Many times it has saved the group from total defeat. Running my buttocks off out of range to come back later and Rebirth people.
However, to have ANY player run off and attack before the group is ready just infuriates me to no end. Even my W/Mo needs a sec or two to recharge and reheal. I like having my "Blue Juice" up and ready for every fight. My Self heals have been appreciated by many Caster/Healers in the group. Also Warriors do need Blue Juice to set up some skills as well.
I have beaten the game so far...so anyone that has had problems with Warriors are welcome to whisper me in the game for help. Just remeind me who you are from here. Because I am OLD I tend to be forgetful.

This is true.
Please note though, in Thirsty river, rushing the temples is actually a good idea. Start off by pulling the first group of three/four guys. Once they're gone....RUSH THE TEMPLE. What happens is: By the time you get IN the temple, most of the MOB's will be OUTSIDE the temple, thus giving all those poisoning rangers and spellcasters obstructed views which prevent them from scoring hits on you. Once you take down the Monk and the Boss, you can methodically handle the rest without worrying about the MOB ressurect. (Because the Monk is dead)
Then, wait for the timer to hit the 2-minute mark, rinse and repeat.

hear hear...
i play a war monk as my primary, monk mes and ele mes as two other characters.... my favorite is my warrior monk... if i'm in a good group....when no one else is working with you it can be very very hard to do your job right.... my favorite thing to do is protect the casters or.. help kill that monk/sage/priest thats healin all the enemies.. but with 20 guys on you cuse the other warrior aggroed 3 groups you can't get to your monk to pull agro.. my ebnergy doesn't recharge fast enough to keep them healed while they try to heal everyone else it's just one dead part member after another....
whats sad is us "good" warrior monks get sh*t on or thought of as a noob right off the bat because so many others have given us a bad name....

well since W/Mo is the most popular character you are going to see a lot of tht happening. (lord knows i have) I am to the point i would rather not have W/Mo on my team at all.
I do not have a W/Mo character for the simple fact that every9one else does lol.
anyway i am sure there are good ones out there but the bad far far outweigh the good

I've never understood the ranger hatred. They make the best pullers, and together with mesmers can really wreak havoc on an opposing mob. Nothing like a quality poison smackdown to make my job as a Warrior a lot easier.

Hmm. I tend to play my characters in parallel, but my ranger was the first to complete all the missions. I attribute this in part to the relative ease in getting good PUGs compared to my monk. My monk can get PUGs easy, just standing around she frequently gets multiple invites. Problem is, she also spends a lot of time running around in missions trying to heal people who are just plain doomed to failure -- can't target call, can't manage aggro, can't slow down. My ranger wastes a lot less time on fruitless PUGs. Yes, he does spend more time standing around in town, but that means he's still standing around in town when a good group comes along, which is better than being off wasting time with idiots. Being a ranger means you filter out a lot of the idiot invites, and parties that accept you at least have the advantage of a good leader. Alternately, create your own parties, and again the fact that you're a ranger will help you get together a good group, as half the idiots out there will simply not accept your invite, thus improving the average intelligence of players who do join your group.
